It was a bright sunny afternoon, and I was feeling so happy. I wanted to celebrate by having a picnic with my family! But, I thought, “How can I tell everyone?”
I decided to start by inviting my mom. “Mama! Can we go on a picnic today with the whole family?” I asked. “That’s a great idea, Fiona! But how can we gather everyone?” she replied. “Don’t worry, I’ll find them!” I said, feeling excited.
First, I rushed to invite my brother, Freddy. He was playing tag with some friends. “Freddy! We’re having a picnic today!” I shouted cheerfully. “Will Auntie Fifi and Uncle Fluff come?” he asked. “Of course! I’ll invite them too!” I answered and ran off. But Auntie and Uncle were busy picking apples. “Come on! We’re having a family picnic!” I called. Auntie Fifi smiled and said, “Okay! I want to make a pie with these apples!” Uncle Fluff nodded excitedly.
Next, I thought of Cousin Chester’s family. Chester, his little brother, and their mom and dad were having a race. I shouted, “Hey everybody! We’re having a picnic!”
I gave my invitations to each family. “Will the Grumpy Goat be there?” Chester asked. I giggled and said, “Yes, he’ll join us. Just come!”
Then, I remembered Granny Willow. She lived by the pond. It was a long way off, but that didn’t bother me. I jumped, two feet at a time, right toward Granny’s tree. “Granny! We’re having a picnic at the big oak tree!”
“Will Blabber the Parrot be there?” she asked. “He’d love to join us too,” I replied.
I rushed home, where my brother had already told Mama about the picnic. She was busy making sandwiches, cakes, and lemonade. She asked, “Have everyone looked after their pets?” I forgot, so we visited every family again to check on their pets.
The gathering was at the big oak tree. Mama had set out the food, and everyone started arriving. Cousin Chester’s mom brought cheerful drinks for all. Then we played ball and parachute games until everyone was quite tired and hungry.
We all sat down. The cake was huge and so tasty. “Mama, what do you like best about picnics?” I asked. “Eating delicious food, of course!” she replied with a smile.
Then I asked Freddy. He said, “My favorite thing is drinking Koala Juice!” Granny Willow liked watching kids play. Chester loved meeting new people, and Auntie Fifi liked everything! Uncle Fluff said it was extra special because of the food!
“But if we want to have more picnics, my children,” said Granny, smiling, “you must help your parents!”
Then Blabber squawked, “Next time, let the elephant and snake be there too!” We all laughed and agreed that with a little help, more picnics could happen soon!
This picnic helped me learn that together times are what make family memories really special.
