Daisy was a small dog owned by a butcher, who used to give her a bone every day. One day, her master threw her a very nice big bone, and she started off with it in her mouth very happily.
Daisy crossed over a little wooden bridge which led across a brook. As she was crossing it, she looked down into the water, and there she saw another dog with a bone in his mouth, which he was trying to take away from him. Daisy thought that she would like to have that also, and she made up her mind to try to get it. So she opened her mouth to bark at the dog below, and thus opened her mouth to drop her own bone, which fell into the brook and was carried away by the current. So she had both the bones for which she had tried, and lost them both.>
“Ah, ah!” said her master, who had come to the door just in time to see it all. “I am glad to find that some dogs are not so greedy as others.”
Sometimes, wanting more can lead to losing everything.
