A Dog appeared to be having a glorious time in a barn where fodder was kept for an Ox. This Dog could not eat hay himself, so he had no business to lie in the manger, and grumble at the poor Ox who wanted to eat the hay. As soon as the Ox came near, the Dog began to bark and snarl, and prevented him from coming near to the hay.
“I can never eat it myself,” growled the Dog, “but it shall be of no use to you.” At last, in order to get at the hay, the Ox gave the Dog a good kick with his hind leg and sent him away from the manger. Then he was able to eat the hay at his leisure.
Those who are unable to enjoy something will grudge others from having it.
