In a vibrant rainforest, under the gentle caresses of the morning sun, Perry the Parrot woke up with a twinkle of hope in his eyes. Today was not just any day; it was the day he had decided to master the art of flying! He gazed at his feathered friends who flitted about gracefully and dreamed of soaring like them. Yet, deep down, he held a secret.
“My friends,” Perry chirped to his companions, “I have a grand announcement to make! Today, I shall learn to fly.”
His friends stopped and stared. “But you can’t!” exclaimed Bella the Bluebird. “You always fall down!”
“No more falling down!” Perry replied determinedly, puffing out his colorful chest. “Today is my day. A day filled with success. Nothing will prevent me from flying.”
His friends clapped their wings in support. They were filled with excitement for Perry’s attempts. Maybe, just maybe, today would indeed be different.
Perry set off to find an ideal launching pad. He climbed up the tallest tree he could find and perched bravely on the edge of a branch. All the animals gathered below, eager to witness this momentous event. With the wind swirling beneath his wings, Perry’s heart raced. He took a deep breath and leaped off the branch.
“FLAP! FLAP! FLAP!” He went with all his might, but alas, after a mere few seconds in the air, “THUD! BUMP! BANG!” He landed directly on his bottom.
“Oh no! Perry fell again!” the animals gasped.
But Perry stood up, shook his colorful feathers, and grinned. “Can’t say it didn’t hurt, but at least I know what it’s like to be up there,” he laughed softly to himself, choosing not to notice the disappointed chirps of his friends.
Encouragement poured in from all corners of the rainforest. “Try again!” & “Remember the turtle!” shrieked his friends, adding their voices to the chorus. So Perry tried again. AND AGAIN. AND AGAIN…
After many attempts, Perry felt confident enough to practice in front of all his friends taking off from his favourite tree. “Don’t fret if I fall down,” Perry told them, “I promise it won’t be the last you’ll see of me.” He took a few deep breaths, gathered all his strength, and leaped once more. His little heart raced but this time, wings flapping energetically, he felt a shift.
“He’s doing it!” Bella gasped, her eyes sparkling.
And indeed he was! Perry was flying! High above the vines, the birds, the trees, and the ground he loved so much. From up there, he realized just how wonderful it felt to fulfill a long-held dream. And although he wasn’t as swift as his friends, he carried a heart filled with pride and happiness.
It did not take long for Perry to become the best flyer in all of the rainforest. He whizzed through the trees, soared up to the highest branches and swooped down low to catch a wave. Perry was the happiest parrot to fly the skies.
His friends asked him each day how he managed to learn to fly so well. All Perry would ever say was this:
“Don’t be disheartened if you don’t succeed at once. Keep trying and trying till you make it.”
