Once upon a time, deep in a cozy forest, lived a little owl named Oliver. He adored the night, flying under the twinkling stars and hooting sweetly. But one particularly silent night, something felt amiss. His forest friends, from skinniest mouse to duskiest deer, were nowhere to be seen.
“I wish someone would come out and play,” Oliver sighed, fluffing his feathers. The moon beamed quietly, keeping him company, but it was no replacement for a true friend. Suddenly, an idea floated in his mind, as fluffy as a cumulus cloud. “I’ll wrap myself in my magical blanket,” he hooted to himself joyously, fluttering to his tree stump, pulling a wonderfully warm and thick blue blanket from inside it. It shone brightly, even under the moonlight.
He spread it out on the ground and perched on one end, letting the warm folds cover his body as he swayed from side to side, till the entire blanket was doing a gentle dance. It certainly was magical! Soon little sparks of starlight peeped out, twirling around the blue blanket. They united to form a mighty ball of light that flew high into the sky. As it floated, it tuned into the most soothing music the night had ever heard.
The sound rolled out through the forest, melting into every nook and cranny of the place. And soon, one by one, Oliver’s friends began to appear. “Good evening, Oliver!” they said. Beaming, Oliver peeped from under the blanket.
“Very funny how magical music calls you all, when you could just have flown over to meet me here,” he teased.
“Nonsense! We’ve been hiding, ensuring that you were kept company,” said a rabbit, raising his ears and twitching his nose.
They all settled down on the magical blanket, sharing news and a nice clean meal of mushrooms and berries that a friend had dropped by with. Together they watched the night drift by, though it never really felt as if it was going anywhere at all!
Eventually, one by one, they snuggled down to sleep, knowing that they were all there for one another, knowing that the blanket would ensure it remained a very long and happy night indeed.
