In a buzzing little beehive, there lived a young bee named Benny. Benny loved to explore. On this busy afternoon, all the bees were flying in and out, making the hive the happiest place to be, but Benny had other ideas.
He floated near the entrance of the hive and watched a curious little bug walk on a flower. As he veered left to inspect it, BAM! He ran right into one of his friends, Bella. “Benny!” she buzzed. “Look where you are going!” As Benny apologized, his giant bee feet accidentally pushed a honey jar over, and it teetered right to the edge of the shelf. Everybody gasped! Down it tumbled, making the most awful mess ever.
“Oh no! Benny, how could you? That was a new batch of honey!” said his friend Bobby. All around him, the bees worked hard to keep the hive running smoothly, and now he made a sticky mess. Benny felt so ashamed. All the butterflies stopped to stare, and even the bumblebees stopped buzzing.
“I’m so sorry, everyone,” he buzzed softly. “I didn’t mean to.”
One by one, Benny’s flittering friends approached and offered to help. Bella held out a little cleaning cloth. Bobby suggested, “We can all take some honey back to the flower.” Soon, he and Benny were passing out honey to fill the jar, and the others helped clean up the sticky hive. Flying bees buzzed past, bringing buckets and rags to help. Before Benny knew it, what seemed to be a terrible mistake became an afternoon of sweet fun.
“Sometimes, it’s fun to make a mess!” quipped Bella, buzzing up and down from the effort. All the bees and butterflies laughed and cheered:
“Hooray for Benny! Hooray for bees!”
The chores became a happy dance and a giant game.
Benny realized that everyone makes mistakes sometimes; it’s how we handle them that counts. That was a big lesson packed in a tiny bee tummy, and how sweet it was!
Bees came and went, and Benny felt proud of his big mistake. He was sure that from that day on, he’d bloom smarter. Helping friends always made honey seem so much sweeter, and they learned together that sometimes it’s perfectly okay to make a mess.
